Sculpted fly rods

QQQ logo A3.jpg

Even sculptors are entitled to a hobby. I am a fly fisherman. Headwaters. Dry fly. Trout only. After having tied the perfect fly -several, by the way- it was time to build the perfect rod. That is to say, the one that would really meet my demands. Accurate. Svelte. Gentle. Powerful. Light weight. I couldn’t help adding ‘and something out of the ordinary, sexy even’ to my points of departure.

So I invented, created, developed the QQQ *, and manufactured them, in an ever so artisanal way:

* selected prime quality Tonkin

* quadrangle / square in cross section

* four double-built i.e. coupled strips
* all four strips from one and the same shoot
* one-piece rods (no joint or ferrules)
* unique, chic up to fancy grips

My QQQ’s have been typified as ‘sculpted rods’, which, in fact, they are. The craftsmanship they embody is widely appreciated. Many even regard them as art.

* The Quadrille is a dance for four couples. Quatre means four. Quatrième stands for a quarter. All ingredients together: a harmonious elegancy in se; poetry/fish porn in motion.

The name giving is a definite wink at Charles Ritz’ splitcane rods (PPP - Puissance Progressive Parfaite) which he developed for and were marketed by Pezon&Michel – France.

It was a most surprising experience to cast with these splitcane rods - wow. The square shape doesn’t detract from the performance and casting ability of other fly rods, on the contrary…

Wenn alles zusammen kommt…. Die Rute nam die Schnur und Fliege fast von alleine dahin wo ich gerade noch ein kleiner Schatten bewegen sah. Punktgenau getroffen.

This rod is truly alive – swaying like the top of a bamboo pole in the wind, carrying the fly line naturally just like it gently supports its leaves.

Ceci n’est pas une canne. C’est un chef-d’œuvre qui apport du neuf à l’ancien. Ceci est de l’art, crée pour l’art subtile, sublime, ultime pour la pêche à la mouche, sèche par préférence.
